HEARTS HELPING HAITI

When my two little boys, Tyler McAlister (Mrs. Dillard's K5 class) and Brandon McAlister (Mrs. Jones 4th grade class) saw the devastation and heartache after the massive earthquake in Haiti, their little hearts just ached. They asked me what they could do to help. I told them we would pray about it and find the best way to help those who were hurting.
Well, my boss announced about a week later that he would be leaving for medical efforts in the country with our church, Brookwood. He is raising money to help support the efforts of the church and explained this to the boys one afternoon when they stopped by the office. After listening, Brandon spoke up and told my boss that he had gotten some money for his birthday and that instead of spending it on himself for things he really doesn't need, he wants it to go to Haiti with my boss to help purchase medical supplies for the people in Haiti. Tyler then piped in that he had been saving money, too and wanted to give his money to help as well.
You could see tears in the eyes of my boss and of course myself. We are so proud of their loving, innocent hearts. Between them, they gave $50 to my boss. It may not have been as much as others had been able to give, but it meant the most to my boss b/c it came from their hearts and that they KNEW exactly what giving is at their age. That's not something you see everyday out of a 10 and 6 year old child.
My boss leaves Saturday, Jan. 30th for Haiti with an almost additional $3000 in hand to help with the purchase of medical supplies. I love knowing that our children helped to contribute to such a needy cause.

Proud Parents,

Gina and Matthew Motte

Locks of Love

It was no big deal for Megan to cut her hair but it made a huge difference to someone who needed it. You see, Megan was one of many who donated her hair to Locks of Love. This non profit organization helps disadvantaged children find hairpieces after they have lost their hair due to a medical procedure or diagnosis. Megan said that despite the shock of seeing her beautiful pony tail cut before her very eyes, she feels good that she did something special for someone else. It has also made life so much easier getting ready for school each morning!

TOOTH FAIRY TREASURE

Anna, a second grade student, had lost some teeth over the past several months. The tooth fairy left her some special treasures for her. Anna decided to Pay it Forward by not buying gifts for herself. Instead, she went to the school Santa Shop and bought Christmas presents for her entire family. Thanks for your generosity, Anna!

POCKETS FULL OF GIVING

SPARE CHANGE NO MORE! Lanie Craft's students have decided to collect spare change from home and do something great. They will join their money together, walk to the local CVS, and buy a Christmas gift for a local child in need. The students have been discussing what they are thankful for and to always remember to think of ways they help someone else. AWESOME JOB!!!

Stone Student Shaves for St. Baldrick's

"You heard it right - I'm shaving my head in solidarity with children who have cancer and typically lose their hair during treatment, while raising critical funds for childhood cancer research!" -Davis Crews

Our very own Stone student, Davis Crews participated in the nationwide event, St. Baldrick's Day at Soby's New South Cuisine on March 17th. This is the largest fundraisier for childhood cancer research in the country. The local venue raised an amazing $29,585 for this wonderful cause.

Davis is a third grade student who likes to play basketball in his spare time. During the event, Davis was entertained by a magician who he thoroughly enjoyed while having his head shaved. He is a special student who certainly knows what showing kindness is all about. Thanks, Davis!

TRUE GIVING AT CHRISTMAS

Marcus was at Wal-Mart over the weekend. He picked up the last Bumble Bee Transformer. He really, really wanted that Bumble Bee Transformer. There was a lady at the store that wanted it too and there wasn't another one anywhere. Without hesitation, Marcus handed the toy to the lady and said, "Merry Christmas." Before Marcus and his aunt were ready to leave the lady found them in the store. She had bought the Bumble Bee Transformer and she gave it back to Marcus.

Molly and Madison surprised their classmates by using their own allowance and birthday money to buy their entire class popcorn at lunch. What a great way to show kindness and generosity. We are so proud of both of you!
